  1. My mother used to make bourbon franks in the 70's in the crock pot and then continued to make them almost every family event through the 90's. They really are good. I used to sneak them out of the crock pot and eat them when she was not looking when I was in high school.

  5. We are on the same wavelength Jill! Marissa and I love this recipe, we use Hillshire Farms "Lit'l Smokies" and we call them Drunken Weenies! (We substitute Hennessey to make it "Trap"!) Great quick and tasty appetitzer!

  6. Hi, Jill! That appetizer looks amazing. I agree about the Bourbon: although you don't want to use the best, you still do want to use something that you would drink. That is the philosophy I use when choosing alcohol for cooking.
    I am sure the brown sugar added a ton of flavor.
    Putting them in a crock pot so that they stay warm was a great idea. Toothpicks make serving this so easy. Thanks for sharing, Jill!

Yup, that's the recipe! 5 pounds sausages, 1/2 gallon Heinz, 3 pounds sugar, 1/2 cup molasses, Slice one onion for each bottle of beer (three, usually)and the leftover whiskey, round about half a fifth. Strain out the onion, and put in a service plate with crackers. Cook all day until everyone begins to arrive. Keep extra, because it disappears!
