  1. I remember begging for that as a kid. We never ate out. We never ordered in. My mom and dad cooked everything from scratch. She finally gave in and bought me a box and it was god-awful.

  2. May I put in a pitch for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Not the "deluxe" version, but the kind to which you add a quarter stick ofParkay margarine and a quarter cup of milk. Stir it up and eat it out of the pan. Got me through college and I still have it once in a while at 61 yrs old. When I was 18 it routinely cost a dollar for four boxes. When on sale, it was 5 for a buck. I'd buy 20 boxes at the time so I'd always have a supply. Ah, the "good old days".

  4. So what's wrong with hamburger helper that comes in the box that she's staying away from that she has to come up with her own version of it? Oh let me guess they call it the poor person's meal and she don't want to be seen or known as such. Gtfoh 🙄

  5. So I had to make this. And I took liberties. I added finely chopped carrot and celery to mix with the onion and garlic. Good way to sneak in veggies. I did not have paste so I used catsup. I did not add paprika. I did add fresh parsley. It was really good.

  6. Thank you for this recipe. Omygosh, your story… I grew up with a single dad and Hamburger Helper was all he knew how to cook. And that was back when they only had like 3 flavors, but they tasted pretty much the same. My brother and I were so sick of having essentially the same thing every night. So our dad made Tuna Helper. !!!!!! Oh, the trauma of my childhood. To this day I HATE Hamburger Helper (and Tuna Helper). I'll make my skillet meal from scratch, thank you very much.

  7. I've been making my own for years I love it because I get to put what I want to in it and still use a real good beef gravy and the best ingredients you can find

  8. I am usually quite unimpressed with Ree's recipes, but some of those spice add-ons were really clever. I'm particularly impressed with the idea for the grainy mustard.
